Local heritage book of BurwegBurweg is located near Himmelpforten, which many know as the post office for the Christ Child during the Christmas season. The parish Burweg-Horst includes the places Burweg, Breitenwisch, Burg, Blumenthal, Engelschoff, Seemoor, and of course Burweg. The cemetery in Blumenthal has only existed since 1922; therefore all [earlier] funerals took place in Burweg-Horst. The church of St. Petri [St. Peter] stands on a hill called “Horst.” This fieldstone church has stood on the “Horst” since 1200 and was named at the time after “St. Petrus,” the patron saint of fishermen and sailors. Now the name is “St. Petri.” Previously, sailors probably had built a chapel in the same place, because the old cemetery can still be seen around the church today. I took this information from the blackboard, which stands in front of the church to provide information for tourists. The first pastor, Adam Brandt, came to this parish in 1581 and was transferred to Lamstedt in 1638. (Source: the first page in the oldest church book, which says, “Preacher allhier zur Horst von Jahr 1581.”) I extracted the data for this OFB [Ortsfamilienbuch] from the parish registers of the church from the year 1700 until the year 1907, at which time privacy restrictions begin. Likewise, I used the civil documents of the corresponding registry offices in Himmelpforten, Breitenwisch and Burweg. I also read the death certificates from Stade, because some people died in the hospital in Stade and are therefore registered there. I did this if I didn’t find the funeral in Burweg, because some people were not to be found by moving away. I also took data from the gravestones. For some families, the surname spelling changed, so I recorded everything using the current variant, so you can find your way around. These are the families Jarck/Jark, Breuer/Breier, Burwick/Bardowick/Berwick, Schlichten/Schlichting, Schillen/Schilling, Haack/Hake/Hacke, Koopmann/Kopmann. I wish researchers a lot of luck in finding your ancestors here. Of course, I gladly accept corrections or additions. (Translation: Kathy Ikeda) |
