Local heritage book of Badersleben

Badersleben is situated on the north-western foothills of the Huys about 18 km from Halberstadt. Badersleben was first mentioned in documents in 1084 as "Badeslewa". Boundary stones, a medieval courthouse and Bronze Age burial mounds indicate that Badersleben was settled for much longer. As early as 1479, Badersleben was described as a fortified town. Once a ring wall with four gate towers surrounded the town. Two of these towers are still preserved today.
In 1479, the Huysburg convent sold its convent farm in Badersleben to the nuns of the Marienthal convent in Eldargsen, which was destroyed by fire. In the course of secularisation, the convent was dissolved in 1810. In 1835 Gustav von Gustedt from Dardesheim bought the convent and the land belonging to it and in 1846 founded an agricultural school, which was closed in 1939. The agricultural school acquired an excellent reputation far beyond the borders of the country.
Badersleben was originally a town.  The town charter was exchanged with Dardesheim in the 18th century for the right to be a pharmacy location.
In Badersleben you can find numerous monuments which tell of the long history of the town. The monastery church with its pulpit from 1575, the Protestant church St. Sixti with Romanesque tower, the former town hall from 1529 and Bockwindmühle (windmill) must be mentioned.
A baroque three-sided courtyard in the centre of the village, which houses a water mill and a veterinary museum, is also worth seeing.
Since April 1, 2002, the municipality of Badersleben, together with ten other villages, forms the municipality of Huy.
Just over 900 people lived in Badersleben in 2016.

Here you can find more information:

Some family names like Bode or Spangenberg could be found in Badersleben already around 1700. These family names still exist today in Badersleben and its surroundings.
The spelling of the surnames changed again and again in the course of time. Thus, somebody was born as Johann Diederich, but in the death entry, he is called Johann Dietrich. Or Newy - Naewy - Naewi - Nävy. Kiehne - Kiene - Kühne.  Schliephacke-Schliephake. Also the spelling of the first names can sometimes confuse, e.g. Cord, Curt, Curdt, Cordt or Kurt. Sometimes not very easy.
This local family book is supposed to be a research aid. It cannot be complete, since there are several gaps in the church bookkeeping. It is not a binding document.

Good luck with your reading.
